The Islamic State (IS) has provided a lifeline to young Muslim militants in search of giving expression to their pent up frustration with the political, social and economic servitude in their respective countries. They are attracted to the Islamic State’s narrative that governments in Muslim countries of the Middle East are corrupt, irreligious, and heavily influenced by the United States and other Western powers. Joining them, they argue, is a real fight in defense of Islam.

Correct Beliefs - Foundation of Islamic Faith

The superstructure of Islam, with all its pillars of Faith, rests on a rock-solid foundation of correct beliefs that are explicitly established from the Quran and Authentic Traditions of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam. Generally our focus is on the visible structure of a building above the ground and we admire its design and architecture. Yet the architects and engineers have to ensure that their foundation is rock-solid or else the entire structure will collapse as a heap of worthless rubble. Exactly is the case with the faith of Islam.

As Muslims, we have a duty to command good and forbid evil. When we translate this into political action, we are to support candidates who in our view will be best suited to procure ‘good’ for our collective communities even if the candidate happens to be a non -Muslim.

Abu Barzah, (ra) once asked Nabi (saw): `O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may benefit from.' He said, `Remove anything harmful from the path of the Muslims." (Muslim)  Your vote not only serves to procure good, it also is a means of removing harm from the path of communities by ensuring that an unsuitable or incapable candidate is not appointed to office. . It is therefore your responsibility to positively influence the outcome of local elections by participating in the upcoming elections.

Why should you vote?

In you want clean water, tidy streets, efficient garbage collection, well maintained roads and parks, functioning sewage disposal systems, then you have to ensure that the most capable individuals are appointed to office. Your vote is YOUR contribution to better living standards.
